Margaret Bourke-White was an American photographer. She is best known for setting the precedent in many facets of the photography world. In addition to being the first foreign photographer permitted to take pictures of the Soviet five-year plan, she was also the first American female war photojournalist. While she is best known for her photojournalism and World War II era work, her earlier industrial photographs remain the most prominent inspiration to me and my own work. Specifically, her photograph “Diversion Tunnel,” included below, speaks to the level of geometric abstraction I hope to achieve within my work.
